UFP Candidate
United Freedom Party has the most Rigorous Selection Process.
Presidential candidates are generally determined through a political party’s nomination process. The broad rules of the nomination process are set by the national committee of each party, which means the candidate selection processes can vary between different political parties.
Currently, candidates go through a series of branch primaries. But before that, a party member who has duly conducted himself/herself can contest as presidential candidate of UFP. Every member who has filed his nominations to contest the flagbearership of the party has to be examined first. Issues of his conduct in the past; whether he has ever been convicted of criminal offences by any court of competent jurisdiction; whether his personal ideologies conflicts with that of the party; and whether his utterances in the past have caused conflicts between groups, tribes or any social grouping. All these and many more would be looked at before forms for an aspirant could be approved.
As a liberal democratic party that believes in the freedom of everyone, UFP has open the floodgates for every interested member to file for any portfolio of choice. For this reason, primaries are universally adopted as the method for selecting delegates, who then have the power to select a flagbearer and running mate. This task is a mandate for Constituent 2. This Constituent has the power to select and then vote to elect a candidate to lead the party. In UFP, we often prefer Early primaries so that we have enough time to mend divisions thereafter.
It is interesting to note that, the executives of the party who are directly elected by grassroots are eligible to vote to electing the candidate. The Council of Elders, which constitute 8, 2 from each branch (sub-group) of the party are also eligible to vote. So the selection process of presidential candidate of UFP is tailored such that the votes represent majority of the members of the party. This is structured to avoid rancour after party primaries.
Primaries offer tests of candidates’ popular appeal and to testify to their ability to mobilize and organize grassroots support among committed followers.
